In 2009, while Chris and Hannah Davis were serving as youth pastors at a wonderful church in the Pittsburgh area, God began to speak to them about church planting. At first they had more questions than answers. They prayed a lot, received council from leaders around them, and learned as much as they could.
Jesus was faithful to direct them and drew their attention to Louisville, Kentucky and specifically a neighborhood called the Highlands. In July 2010 the Davis family moved to Louisville, knowing only a few friends across the river in Indiana.
Through those friends, they met a couple of other friends who had similar hearts for the Highlands. And through those friends they met some more friends, until a small group banded together as the future Destiny Church and we began meeting in Chris and Hannah’s living room for worship and Bible study.
At first our little group met once a month, but soon that didn’t seem like enough. We began meeting every other week, but eventually that was still too little and Destiny Church’s core group moved to meeting every week.
The next season of church life was spent solidifying our relationships with each other and building new friendships in the community. To do this, Jesus and Tacos, a Bible study at the local Qdoba and Ladies Knitting Night at Java Brewing Company were started.
The living room environment gave things a very genuine touch, but it was small and the location hard to find. Destiny Church desired to become more accessible to the community, so we prayed for a venue that could house our new church.
In November of 2011, Destiny Church moved out of the Davis’ little living room and into a venue all our own! It was an exciting next step in the big plan God has for Destiny Church.
